CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN THE curriculum OF NATIONAL COLLEGES OF EDUCATION.

Co-curricular activities play an important role in the curriculum of NCOEs. It is compulsory for all the teacher trainees to participate in all cocurricular activities during the training period. It has been organized to fulfil the following objectives.

 

  • Moulding a teacher with a great personality.
  • Giving opportunity to enhance their talents.
  • Producing a skilful teacher.
  • Avoiding monotony.

 

Cocurricular activities are held on week days from 4.30 p.m to 6.30 p.m and on saturdays from 8.30 a.m to 12.00 p.m.

  4. Cadetting
  5. Guiding
  6. Cubbing
  7. Scouting

01). Sports Monday, Thursday Tuesday, Friday
02). Aesthetic Tuesday, Friday Monday, Thursday
03). Associations Wednesday Wednesday
04). Cadetting, Guiding, Scouting,Cubbing Saturday Saturday

 

It is essential for all teacher trainees to take part in sports. Teacher trainees are expected to involve in sports activities and also in traditional games. Teacher trainees are expecteded to organize a sport meet and to judge sport competitions.

All the teacher trainees have the opportunity to participate in aesthetic subjects, music, dancing, art. During the first year period they have to follow all the three subjects and in the second year they have to follow particular one. Drama competitions , art exhibitions, etc... are expected from teacher trainees.

During the two year residential period teacher trainees are expected to engage in activities in associations .English Literary Association,Buddhist Association, Christian association, Sinhala association, Sports association , etc are some of them.

These co - curricular activities are followed by all the teacher trainees during the two years period. First year cadetting and second year other activities on saturday mornings
